The country and the location of the Bira IndoOceans Project is incredibly beautiful. I went from having very little to lots of confidence diving thanks to our experienced, supportive project leads and found lots of passion in marine biology thanks to the super knowledgable, hardworking marine biologists on the project Sudar and Yuly.
This conservation project is is known for their shark conservation work, but they do so much more. My favourite project was building artificial coral reef substrates, constructing them on the ocean floor, and then populating these substrates with coral polyps to regrow the reef! You really feel like you are making a difference while having the time of your life
I struggle to put into words just how special this program was. To be succinct: it was the experience of a lifetime, made exceptional because of Ben, Jess, and Qinthan.
To keep it short: if you love the ocean, join this program! From start to end, I’ve enjoyed the IOP project and can’t believe how much I’ve learned in such a short period of time.
This is of course, thanks to the amazing program itself – but above all because of Qinthan, Jess & Ben who’ve made the stay truly unique.
