WiseOceans Academy
Education is always changing, including marine biology. Virtual learning is now being used globally for both formal education and extracurricular learning. Let’s see how this type of learning has changed how and what we learn about our oceans and all it’s incredible inhabitants.
No more Geographic Barriers
In the past marine biology education was often limited to those living near the coast, however students can now join from anywhere in the world, including land locked countries. You can now learn about tropical reefs and mangrove forests from a house up in the mountains!
Parental involvement
Unlike traditional in person sessions parents can listen in and get an insight into what their learners are doing. Although parents are off the screen, they can listen to what is being taught and help to encourage learners.
Diverse Learning Tools
Virtual learning gives our educators the option of using lots of tools in their classes that create an engaging and fun session. Videos, animations, audio recordings and games give learners an exciting class experience.

Accessibly for All
Virtual classes often offer a more accessible learning environment for some students. Personal plans can be made with teachers, recording of classes can be rewatched, and volume and chat features can be utilised.
Flexible Learning
Due to the remote access of sessions, they offer a flexible way of learning. If you have an internet connection and a quiet place to learn you can join our class from anywhere.
Access to Specialists
One of the reasons our Marine Biology Club is so special is that it is taught by real life marine biologists! As well as all their knowledge and expertise about ocean habitats and animals, they are also full of stories and experiences they have had that add depth to our lessons. Virtual learning has made accessing specialist teachers a lot easier.
