On the 8th of June WiseOceans and Four Seasons Resort Seychelles celebrated World Oceans Day 2014 with a day of activities for both guests and staff.

Starting off the day, with the able assistance of Dive Resort Seychelles, resort staff came down to try SCUBA diving right here in the resort pool. Nihat Yucel, the new resort manager was one of the first to jump in and took to it like the proverbial duck to water.

As the day progressed staff from the security, finance, front desk, pool & beach and housekeeping all came down to test out their underwater skills. All enjoyed themselves and crucially several members of staff have either already progressed to a full try dive in the sea or are planning to do so. Ultimately this is our mission – to get both guests and staff to engage with the marine world and learn about it’s wonder.

Meanwhile Jo was with the Kids Club making a coral reef to hang on the wall. Helpers (young and old) were busy colouring in, cutting out and applying glitter (OK – the reef is not entirely lifelike!) and learnt lots about the marine life they were attaching to the reef, including fascinating facts like a group of starfish is known as a galaxy of starfish! The kids then went on a snorkel to put into practice the knowledge they had learnt.

Beautiful coral reef!

Not to be outdone the adult guests of the hotel were invited on a guided snorkel to explore the delights of Petite Anse – our very own bay here at Four Seasons Resort Seychelles. For some it was their very first snorkel. Nothing beats the feeling when you hear the squeals of delight coming through a snorkel when a novice snorkeler sees their first fish underwater.

The aim of the day was to help equip more people with the skills, knowledge and passion to make the most of their time in the water wherever they are and to kick-start a lifetime love affair with the ocean. I think this video gives you a good idea of the success of the day.
